What is a load balancing router and why we use it at our coworking space in Lombok

In today’s world, we use the internet for almost everything, whether it’s for work, entertainment, or communication. With so much internet traffic, it’s essential to have a system in place to ensure that all the data gets routed efficiently to its intended destination. This is where a load balancing router comes in.

A load balancing router is a device that helps to manage and distribute network traffic across multiple connections. Imagine the internet as a highway with multiple lanes, and the load balancing router as a traffic cop, directing traffic to the most efficient lanes to avoid congestion and delays.

When you have multiple devices connected to the internet, such as computers, phones, and tablets, they all compete for bandwidth, which can cause slow internet speeds and poor performance. A load balancing router solves this issue by distributing the traffic evenly across multiple connections, which can include cable, DSL, or fiber connections.

The load balancing router determines the best connection to use for each type of traffic, such as email, web browsing, or video streaming. For example, if you’re streaming a video, the router will use the connection with the fastest download speed to ensure smooth playback.

The load balancing router also helps to ensure that the network remains stable and reliable by monitoring the connections and automatically switching to a backup connection if one fails. This ensures that your internet connection remains uninterrupted even if one of your connections goes down.

Another benefit of a load balancing router is that it can help to reduce your internet costs by utilizing multiple connections from different providers. This can help to prevent reliance on a single internet service provider, which can be a problem if there is an outage or if the connection becomes congested.

In conclusion, a load balancing router is an essential device that helps to optimize and distribute network traffic across multiple connections, ensuring fast and reliable internet speeds. It helps to prevent congestion and ensure that your internet connection remains uninterrupted, making it an ideal solution for both home and business use. So, if you’re looking to improve your internet speeds and reliability, consider investing in a load balancing router.

Network requirements for video call in Lombok and the rest of the world.

In recent years, online video meetings have become an integral part of communication in various industries. With remote work becoming the norm, online video meetings are now more crucial than ever for collaboration, communication, and productivity. However, the quality of online video meetings can be affected by network requirements, which can make or break the meeting experience. In this blog, we will discuss the network requirements for online video meetings.

  1. Bandwidth The first and foremost requirement for online video meetings is sufficient bandwidth. Video conferencing requires a lot of data to be transmitted in real-time. The minimum recommended bandwidth for a smooth video conference is 1Mbps, but this can vary depending on the number of participants and the video resolution. Higher resolution video (such as HD or 4K) requires more bandwidth, so it’s essential to check your internet connection speed before starting a video meeting.
  2. Latency Latency is another crucial factor that can impact the quality of online video meetings. Latency is the time it takes for data to travel from one point to another. High latency can cause delays and distortions in the audio and video, making it difficult to communicate effectively. To minimize latency, it’s important to use a stable and fast internet connection with low latency.
  3. Jitter Jitter is a variation in the delay of the data packets, which can cause choppy audio and video. Jitter can occur due to network congestion, packet loss, or other factors. To minimize jitter, it’s important to use a network with low packet loss and congestion. Using a wired internet connection can help to reduce jitter compared to a wireless connection.
  4. Quality of Service (QoS) Quality of Service (QoS) is a feature that allows you to prioritize network traffic for specific applications or devices. QoS can be used to prioritize video conferencing traffic, ensuring that it receives sufficient bandwidth, latency, and jitter to provide a smooth video conference experience.
  5. Firewall and Network Address Translation (NAT) Firewalls and Network Address Translation (NAT) can sometimes interfere with online video meetings by blocking or changing the network traffic. It’s important to ensure that your firewall and NAT settings allow the necessary traffic for video conferencing to pass through.
  6. Upstream and Downstream Bandwidth Upstream bandwidth refers to the data transfer rate from your device to the internet, while downstream bandwidth refers to the data transfer rate from the internet to your device. Both upstream and downstream bandwidth are essential for online video meetings. A good rule of thumb is to have a minimum of 3Mbps upstream and 3Mbps downstream bandwidth for a high-quality video conference.

In conclusion, online video meetings have become an essential part of modern communication, and their success is heavily dependent on the network requirements. The above requirements should be considered when setting up and conducting online video meetings to ensure that the meeting experience is smooth and successful.

At cokreate, we have dedicated speeds per device ( 30 Mbps download & 8 Mbps upload ) so the speed that you will receive on your connection if more then sufficient. Also the latency is around 2 ms, this means there is no delay.

The total speed of the network at cokreate is 500 Mbps download & 125 Mbps upload.

Digital Nomads, Welcome to Lombok

Lombok Island; Lush and green, surrounded by oceans, covered in jungles. Temples, rice terraces, white and moon sand beaches, waterfalls, and volcanoes.

No wonder people love it here.

In the 1970s, it was the hippies and surfers that discovered Bali. These days, while Australian still choose Bali over Lombok, European travelers start to favor Lombok.
With this, another group of people has discovered Lombok: digital nomads.

Remote freelancers, entrepreneurs and employees flock here to such an extent that Lombok is growing in popularity on the Nomad List – not just in Asia, but the whole world.

Let’s take a look, shall we?

It’s Beautiful

The first word that comes to mind when describing Bali is “green.” From jungles to rice fields, Lombok is a collection of “shades of green”, the most restful color for the human eye. Even if you’re on the island to work, all this green is like a vacation for your senses and mind.

And of course, green goes well with the almost perpetual sunshine, Volcanic hillsides,… and deep blue oceans.

No matter what time of year you go to Lombok, the warmest clothes you’ll ever need in coastal areas is a light sweater during the “cold” months between May and October.

It’s Always Warm

No matter what time of year you go to Bali, the warmest clothes you’ll ever need in coastal areas is a light sweater during the “cold” months between May and October. This is the dry season in Lombok, and temperatures at night can drop down to 21°C.

While average temperature highs range from 26 – 30°C during the entire year, the dry season is the most comfortable time of year to visit Lombok, because the humidity is at its lowest. During the rainy season from November to March, even the coastal areas swelter beneath a muggy blanket.

But if you need to cool off, you can always head into the mountainous inland areas. Here, temperatures can drop to 10°C at night – and if you’re remote enough and it’s a cloudless night, the Milky Way is spectacular.

All in all, though, you don’t need to worry about being cold in Lombok.

It’s Exciting

There’s no end of excitement and adventure to be had in Lombok. You can

  • hike up a volcano,
  • take a day trip to a remote lake,
  • go jungle trekking,
  • bathe in waterfalls,
  • stroll through rice fields,
  • dance the night away on the beach,
  • enjoy water sports like scuba diving, snorkeling and surfing,
  • experience Sasak culture up close,
  • do yoga in open-air shalas,
  • go white-water rafting
  • take a trip to one of the smaller islands,
  • bask in dazzling sunsets on beautiful beaches,
  • marvel at rice fields from infinity pools, and
  • delight in sea views from hilltops.

Even if you stay for a long time, Lombok never gets boring. There are always new places to explore, new adventures to be had.

And to top this all of, SAME SAME will be opening a brand new co-working space in Kuta Lombok. You can work at your own pace and time. Our co-working space will be accessible 24/7 for members.

Work from Lombok, it is the new working remotely from Bali, government says.

With the government keen to get the Work From Bali initiative rolling, we are already hearing about possibilities that the program may later be replicated in other popular tourist areas in Indonesia — including Lombok and Sumbawa in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). — as part of an effort to revive the country’s tourism industry.

The possibility is a “breath of fresh air” for NTB officials amid the COVID-19 pandemic, who plan on following Bali’s lead in prepping the region to better comply with health protocols and by vaccinating tourism workers.

“It doesn’t rule out the possibility that other tourist regions will see the same policy implemented, such as Work From Lombok or Work From Labuan Bajo,” Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said.

Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said at a press briefing this week that the plan to promote remote work from Indonesia’s popular tourist destinations is still currently focused on Bali. As the initiative may require participation of civil servants from seven ministries under the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment, Sandiaga said that details are still being ironed out among those involved.

For the time being, officials are targeting the involvement of about a quarter of civil servants working in those ministries, which would essentially guarantee higher occupancy rates for hotels in the Nusa Dua complex at least, with whom the government has already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the Work From Bali program.

Fast wifi in kuta lombok

When I was traveling 10 years ago, internet was a luxury. Nowadays, internet is everywhere. Well, this is actually only the case if you are okay with having a 56k like connection.
The truth is when traveling in Asia – or anywhere else -, especially Parediseey places, having a good internet connection in paradise is also a luxury.

4G and soon 5G is a great help, it’s awesome ! However, this mobile connection is pretty unreliable and can be easily disrupted by rain, wind and concrete housing 😀

At SAME SAME, I made the choice of providing to all visitors and guests, the best possible Fast WiFi in Lombok. Was I successful in the setup?

Yes Yes and Yes

We have several modem setups, that either work as primary or secondary internet connection. All connected to a load balancing router and business grade access points. I will spare you the further details of the setup.

The result is that at SAME SAME we do have the fastest WiFi in Lombok. It’s actually triple the speed then the highest single fiber connection that you can get in Lombok.

349 Mbps on average, in Paradise, not bad, right !

The speeds are limited per device to ensure everyone get’s their fair share. So you will receive 7 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload speeds. To slow you say, well if that speed would have to be shared among multiple people and devices, hell yeah, then it is to slow.

10 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload is the speeds on most modems in Lombok.

THOSE SPEEDS HAVE TO BE SHARED WITH EVERYONE CONNECTED TO IT !

You are always welcome to pass by and try to slow the internet down… But I did run a speed test with 10 devices downloading and uploading 10 Gigabyte of data… And all had 6.4 Mbps down and 3.8 upload.

So, fast WiFi in Kuta Lombok? Reality at SAME SAME.
